February 2009, Small Animals Case 1

Clinical history A 7 month old Borzoi presented with chronic lameness in both pelvic limbs with pain evident on movement of the stifle joints.Radiographs were made of both joints because of the clinical signs.Radiographs of both limbs Enlarged lateral views of both stifles Radiographic diagnosis Bilateral osteochondrosis of the lateral condyles of the femurs with extensive involvement of the articular surfaces. The lesions are best seen on the lateral views because of the slight obliquity of those projections. The lesions are not clearly identified on the caudocranial views because of their caudal location and because the lesions are not deep. No joint effusion is present at this time. Note the valgus deformity probably the result of the abnormal development of the lateral condyles. Radiographic chanages of secondary arthrosis are not present at this early age.
